I don’t think I could have said it any better than one [of many] doctors did when he shook his head and empathetically said, “Ehlers Danlos Syndrome is a helluva malady, m’lady.” It’s true though, and any other zebra would tell you the same. EDS sucks.
Of the plethora of symptoms and health detriments one with EDS must endure, I think the pain of it might take the cake most (if not all) days of the week. Between joint dislocations, subluxations, bowel obstructions, thoracic outlet syndrome, SI and vertebral dysfunctions, costochondritis, migraines, bone fractures, etc. etc., I think I speak for a good majority of us when I say that we spend more time dealing with, trying to avoid, and/or treating pain than we do probably any other activity.
A gluten-free vegan diet is a remarkable healing and pain management tool. Hence the blog. Word of mouth and tons of research led me to it, and after trying it on for size I can say with confidence that it is such a game-changer that I will never, EVER go back. Does it take away all the pain? Goodness no, and if you find something that does put me on the top of your contact list, please. Does it even work fast? Nope, not that either. How many years has that body spent using unhealthy fuels to keep it going? It’ll take a good while to heal, so stick with it if you’re just a few weeks in and don’t feel all that different.
There are many, many other very useful and worthy tools. I stumbled upon this slideshow from a Dr. Chopra discussing the measures and challenges of pain management in EDS’ers. I have embedded it here with hopes that others might find it just as interesting and useful as I did. Dr. Chopra specializes in EDS and has a pain management center in Rhode Island. We zebras are no strangers to significant travels to obtain healthcare from physicians in-the-know about Ehlers, so maybe put this guy on your radar should you wish to perhaps try to see him.Chopra – Ehlers
